This
year on the Jewish calendar is a "Hakhel Year" (Year of
Gathering). When the Holy Temple stood in Jerusalem, the entire
Jewish People-men, women, and children, even little infants-would
gather together once every seven years to unite and bolster the
world Jewish community and thereby stimulate spiritual growth. In
unison, they would all hear the words of the Torah read and would
become inspired to greater spiritual awareness and devotion to G-d.
While we await the rebuilding of the Holy Temple, we enthusiastically
relive the essence of Hakhel by dedicating ourselves to its objectives-we
unite to motivate each other and enhance our fulfillment of Torah
and Mitzvos.
What then a more appropriate time to join together in producing
a Sefer Torah that will unite the Jewish People!
